Welcome to the Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation!

We are an organization of dedicated individuals working towards the betterment of two very special entities in Chinook, the Ensign Sweet Memorial Park and the Chinook City Pool. Both of these facilities hold a special place in many people’s hearts, whether you lived in Chinook as a child or whether you currently reside here. Please consider donating to our worthy cause on our donation page, or contact us with any requests for sponsorship that you may have.

We look forward to hearing from the community regarding our endeavors and we are especially excited for the changes to come. Stay tuned as we embark on this adventure, together.

Pool

Our beautiful pool is in need of some love. After 46 years, its time for a facelift. We couldn’t achieve this without the generosity of the people who love our dear pool. Many avid swimmers and swimming enthusiasts, enjoy their summers here.

Park

Sweet Park holds a special place in everyone’s heart. Ensign Sweet, a long-time benefactor for Chinook, funded the development of this park in the late 1980’s. Since then, its been maintained by the Sweet Park Board. It too, is in need of repairs.

Future Plans

We have big plans! Of course, those plans can’t come true without the financial help of the community of Chinook and afar. We look forward to the development of these two great entities.

Fun Facts about the Project

🟠 There were over 5700 individual visits to the Chinook Pool in 2021, many of which are from out of the area.
🟠 The park currently has multiple pieces of missing playground equipment.
🟠 The City of Chinook owns both the park and the pool properties.
🟠 Our plans include a brand new curly slide, the same height as the current iconic slide.
🟠 The diving boards will be fully refurbished with new boards.
🟠 The pool has been experiencing significant cracking and requires repairs each year before opening for the season.
🟠 The proposed Bond would be assessed to taxpayers in only the Chinook School Districts and will be approximately $24.95 per half/each time you pay your taxes.
🟠 Sweet Park is dedicated to Ensign Sweet, a major donor to the project when it was originally built.

🟠 The pool’s gutter system has broken areas that have required replacement of the gutter blocks, which have been made by City employees as a workaround.
🟠 Locker room doors at the pool have deteriorated steel that has become a hazard to patrons.
🟠 The entire project is projected at 3.2 Million, what of which $750,000 may be on the proposed ballot from our recreation district. The remaining will be fund raised by our organization through grants and private fundraising.
🟠 The boiler that heats the water in the pool is outdated to the point that parts are becoming unavailable for it.
🟠 If the bond passes, we could start construction in the summer of 2023 once approved by the City.
🟠 Our plans include filling in the park to grade to drain adequately.
🟠 The baby pool will be removed and a splash pad will be added in its place at a later time once funds are raised.
🟠 An outdoor stage may be placed on the Southwest area of the block.

🟠 The tiles on the walls of the pool have fallen off and become sharp to the touch and have cut patrons.
🟠 Permanent shade structures will be added on the pool deck with chaise loungers and seating.
🟠 The tower water slides and splash pad are the very last items for completion and the funds will be raised through grants and donors for that portion of the project.
🟠 Once the facility is complete, there will be no similar facilities in the northern tier of Montana, making Chinook the perfect location for such project.
🟠 The project will create a destination for the Hi-Line, thus helping our local economies.
🟠 If we wait any longer to fix our aging pool, the cost could significantly increase should we have to fully dig up the pool due to leaking and cracking.
🟠 Our Board of Directors are 100% volunteer, and have been very active in working to make this project a reality.
