Chinook Community: The Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation are honored to provide you with an update on the Construction Progress at the Chinook Pool. Crews are actively working in the Pool area, and it is a buzz of construction contractors every single day.
As of last August, our Foundation has been meeting with the Construction Contractors, Engineers and the City of Chinook each week, discussing the project details and direction. The City of Chinook’s Public Works Director, Josh Nordboe, has also been an integral part of the process and he and his crew have been doing a plethora of work inside the Mechanical Room to install a new filtration system. Many different contractors from around the area have been involved in this project and our Engineer, Kaden Bedwell of Interstate Engineering has been on-site doing inspections and working with our General Contractor, Corland Construction, as the project progresses.
The pool is slated to be completed by mid-June, and contractors are working hard to get it completed. As of May 14th, the concrete Ribbon Slab has been installed on the outer perimeter of the pool, and the remaining concrete deck will be poured next week. The drains have been replaced, gutter system installed, new piping around the perimeter of the pool installed alongside the new filtration system. The Zero Depth entrance is completed, and the pool liner is expected to be installed this week, along with the diving board towers that will be refinished shortly thereafter. The perimeter fence will then be completed, and the finishing touches will be done at that time. Progress is being made every single day, it is quite a process to watch unfold.
We are so thankful to every single person who had a hand in any of this project, from start to finish. From the initial fundraising to the incredible donations; to the contractors who have all worked on this project and to the City and their employees for every single bit of work they have helped to complete. This has been a humbling experience, to say the least, and our Board of Directors would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for every single person involved, in any way.
The Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation and the City of Chinook would like to welcome the community to a Grand Re-Opening Celebration on Thursday, June 18th. This Grand Re-Opening will be an incredible event celebrating 50 years of the Pool and 100 years of the Park and we will have a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, as well. We will be hosting a Free Barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. where the Chinook City Council Members will be serving food (donated by the FOPP) as a thank you to the community for all of the donations towards the project. The City has graciously allowed free admittance to the pool from 7 to 9 p.m. that evening. We will be serving Burgers, Salads, Chips, Drinks and we will even have Cake!
Grab your swimsuits, shades and friends to help us celebrate this monumental milestone! We want to thank everyone who made this reconstruction project a reality. It truly takes a village, and we are so incredibly humbled by each and every person involved. Next up, Sweet Park! Stay tuned for more details on that project as it unfolds. Donations to the Park Project can be made on the Pool and Park website at www.chinookfriends.org or by mailing them to: Friends of the Pool, PO Box 785, Chinook, MT 59523. Thank you for every single dollar donated, we couldn’t do this monumental project without the amazing support.
